Algae have a prominent position in the living world in terms of their ecological importance in aquatic environments and genetic diversity. Algal culture collections aim to preserve this diversity and make it available to the scientific community and to industry.
CCBA contains both the original strains isolated by ourselves and strains received from the world culture collections. There are currently available about one hundred original isolated strains of Baltic algae and about one hundred strains introduced from other algal collections. Original strains were isolated from the coastal waters of the Southern Baltic represent cyanobacteria (Cyanophyta), green algae (Chlorophyta), diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) and microflagellates and show marine, brackish and freshwater character.

CCBA is registered in The World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM) of The World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) under No. 914, the URL address: http://www.wfcc.info Look at the webpage of CCBA: https://ccba.ug.edu.pl
