The Baltic Algae Culture Collection (CCBA) is registered under number 914 in the World Federation of Culture Collections (WFCC) and listed in the World Data Center for Microorganisms (WDCM), URL: http://www.wfcc.info/ccinfo/collection/by_id/914

The current resources of the Collection include over 100 Baltic strains from the following taxonomic groups: cyanobacteria, green algae, diatoms and plant flagellates.

The collection was significantly enlarged during the implementation of the project "Research project Center of Excellence BALTDER", European Commission Project: EVK3-2002-00502, WP-4 "Culture Collection of Baltic Algae (CCBA)" and was enriched with apparatus thanks to the obtained research grant development in 2009-2012 - development project No.N R14 0071 06/2009.

Deputy director of the Institute of Oceanography for Science in 2008-2016 and construction manager of a new ship: Investment task "OCEANOGRAF specialized research vessel for interdisciplinary research on the Baltic Sea" - contract No. 660 / FNiTP / 127/2011 of 09/09/2011 .

Scientific interests:

Ecophysiology and ecotoxicology of cyanobacteria and planktonic and benthic algae.

Laboratory cultivation of cyanobacteria and Baltic algae, also in bioreactors, in order to learn about the influence of environmental factors such as light, temperature, salinity and xenobiotics on photosynthesis, chlorophyll PAM fluorescence, respiration, photoaclimatization mechanisms, as well as growth and production of biomass containing unique organic compounds.

The phenomenon of allelopathy in cyanobacteria and Baltic algae.

Career paths:

1972 - based on the defended thesis in the field of plant physiology at the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. "Studies on photo-induced changes in membrane potential in Funaria hygrometrica moss leaf cells".

PhD 1982 - on the basis of a doctoral dissertation in the field of biological oceanography, defended at the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences of the University of Gdańsk. "Characteristics of photosynthetic activity of vegetation in the Gulf of Gdańsk", supervised by Prof. Włodzimierz Starzecki, head of the Department of Plant Physiology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow.

Dr hab. 2000 - on the basis of the postdoctoral dissertation in the field of Earth sciences in the field of oceanology, defended at the Faculty of Biology, Geography and Oceanology of the University of Gdańsk, "The influence of exogenous factors on the rate of sea algae production processes".
